SUMMARY
According to Roland, he was formerly a "kickass" Grade 1 Fixer who mainly dealt with intelligence and information (and did not participate in actual combat) before being demoted to the lowest rank, Grade 9. He then started a one-man Office to continue making a living as a Fixer, before mysteriously finding himself inside the Library while trying to visit a HamHamPangPang sandwich shop.

Also according to Roland, he does not have any surviving family; his parents died when he was young, and he used to live with his grandmother until she mysteriously disappeared one day. He was also married, with his wife being another high-graded Fixer. However, both his wife and their unborn child were killed when their house collapsed in a disaster that happened in Roland's home district while Roland was away. Despite this, he claims to have accepted his loss, insisting that his tragedy was nothing special amongst the denizens of the City.
HISTORY (SPOILERS)
In truth, Roland's purpose of being in the Library from the very beginning was to find the truth and the main culprit behind the events of the White Nights and Dark Days, his mentor, the Purple Tear, Iori, convinces him to get into the Library as part of her ulterior motives in resurrecting her deceased son that died 40 years ago.

His past was revealed to have actually been an orphan adopted by an unknown lady that passed away not long after while also inspiring him into becoming a Fixer and joined the Smoke Wars to secure a better life. After the war, Roland integrates into the City and got a job as a Grade 1 Fixer in the Charles office, and collaborated alongside with his partner soon turned wife, Angelica, the former Black silence. However, his life slowly went downhills when Roland's efforts of trying to work his way to move to a much better and safer area of the City was all for nothing after a smuggling incident of O Corp (which was soon revealed to be Roland blackmailing an operator to force them to commit illegal transference of Enkephalin substances) led to his ticket, and the promise between two Wings for former Smoke War veterans to enter a Nest to be declined, causing him and his wife to remain in the Backstreets (an area outside the protection of wings with the largest rate of criminal activities).

One day, when Roland was sent on his final mission by Charles's Office, the events of White Nights and Dark Days occurs, leading to a Distortion known as The Pianist to manifest in the area that his pregnant wife is living in, and soon caused the death of Angelica and their unborn baby. Roland, devastated by the loss of his wife, was consumed by the hatred for those responsible for the events of White Nights and Dark Days, leading him to go on a massive rampage across The City, killing many peoples who he thinks or blames to be the main cost (though, the majority of these peoples are all serial killers, fanatical cults, and crime syndicates.)

His rampage was put to a temporary halt when Iori shows up and sent him to the Library to find the culprit behind the events of White Nights and Dark Days, which after getting a hold that it was Angela, he decides to feign ignorance, adopted a façade of a calm and passive individual to gain her trust and wait for her to attain her ultimate goal before proceeding to rob it away from her out of the hatred of losing his loved ones.
ABILITIES (SPOILERS)
Fixer: As a Fixer, a mercenary hired by contracts for a variety of different jobs, Roland is decent with a weapon in his hand - namely the black baton that he uses in receiving guests (read: fight to the death) at the Library. He is just a washed-up Grade 9 though, the lowest Fixer rank, but he makes up for it with his diligence and hard work.

Black Silence: ...except no, that was all just a front. Roland is only demoted to Grade 9 from being Grade 1 and a Color, the highest Fixer rank, and it shows in his incredible skill with his weapons. Wielding the gloves of his late wife, the former Black Silence, he can gain access to a wide arsenal of weapons which includes a serrated dagger, a handful of guns, a pair of clawed gauntlets, a battle axe and a mace, a lance, dual shortswords, a katana, a greatsword and his own personal longsword, Durandal. Said gloves are also capable of silencing the surroundings except the sound of weaponry clashing against one another, and he also sports a jet-black perception-blocking mask which makes him appear as someone else or heavily blurs his appearance to others when he wears it.

Powercopying: Roland's main forte and the source of his abilities. He sports an excellent memory and raw talent out of the Colors known thus far, being able to understand and perfectly adopt any fighting style he observes. It's evident in some side materials where he often test out and fiddle with the weapons Angelica bought, and how her ghost in Roland's boss fight has nearly identical animations to his own. It's explained in the artbook that Roland's moveset in the game were his attempts in mimicking her, and this is also shown in the special Memory pages his Distorted (read: boss form) has where it shows near-perfect copies of the original combat pages he'd copied from other people he'd fought over the course of the game.

High Stamina: Presumably due to bioaugmentation, but Roland's incredibly resilient - after Angelica's death, he went on an indiscriminate killing spree against Fingers, Syndicates, Offices and even innocent civilians, trying to get revenge on whoever was responsible for the Distortions. It should be noted that due to his status and skill level at the time, the Fixers who were dispatched to stop him had to be just as strong or more to even have a chance against him yet he was barely fatigued nor injured at all by them or the groups he targeted. Near the end of the game, he's shown to be capable of defeating Argalia one on one, fighting the Librarians themselves with dialogue implying the three Floors available for his fight are the only ones remaining, followed by fending off the Distorted Reverberation Ensemble for 7 straight days before finally fighting an Arbiter and a Claw of the Head at once without break.
IC PERMISSIONS
PHYSICAL AFFECTION: He's not the type to initiate, but he won't say no to it with someone he loves and trusts. That said he's not overly trusting of just about anyone, though.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Ask first before we can go all out. Roland is certainly no stranger to fighting as a Fixer despite his Grade 9 status, and is pretty adept with any weapon you give him. For the most part I'm okay with handwaving combat since it's usually a pain to thread, but if we're able to thread one from start to finish I'll love you forever.

RELATIONSHIPS: Very far from his mind right now. He's still mourning over the loss of his wife, and he's not going to get over that anytime soon. I'd be fine with making stuff up in non-game stuff, but otherwise it's mostly going to be a no. As for canon, I have a soft spot for both Angelica and Vergilius if that helps any.

PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: Ask first, because there are some major spoilers regarding both Library of Ruina and Lobotomy Corporation (and potentially Limbus Company but shh) - not to mention his own pile of issues. But doesn't everybody?

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Library of Ruina comes with a chockful of content warnings, and there's no avoiding them when getting into the nitty-gritty of Roland's entire deal. Please refer to his opt-out for more information.
OOC PERMISSIONS
BACKTAGGING: let's backtag till the heat death of the universe, babeyyy

THREADHOPPING: if it's a silly network thread, why not. otherwise ask first

FOURTHWALLING: nah. he won't even react if you try to point out his literary references.
